Young, innovative CEO looking to make mark on healthcare

WASHINGTON – Audax Health Solutions (Audax) Founder, Chairman and CEO, Grant Verstandig is not your usual corporate executive. Yes, he has vision, develops strategy and makes big decisions. He also has the personality and character most people would associate with a CEO. But Verstandig is just 21 years old; and he has chosen to take on one of the biggest, most scrutinized and most debated issues of all time – healthcare.

And, he is doing it in a way that is sure to draw the attention of more than just the consumers he is targeting. His program is called Careverge, a unique online healthcare management Web site that combines social media and healthcare technology.

Despite his youth, Verstandig is not as unfamiliar with healthcare as some might expect. In conjunction with his studies at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md., Verstandig completed internships with renowned physicians at such facilities as the Children’s National Medical Center, National Cancer Institute and the Washington Hospital Center.
“I know that what I am trying to do is a bold undertaking,” said Verstandig, who is currently on a leave of absence from his junior year of studies in neuro-biology at Brown University. “But being bold is what it will take to make a difference in healthcare. That’s even why I chose the name I did for our company: Audax in Latin means ‘bold.’”

A large part of Verstandig’s inspiration comes from his personal experiences with the healthcare system.

“I am very athletic; I like pretty much anything that has to do with a score and competition; and to go along with that, I have had seven knee surgeries and a medical record file now the size of an encyclopedia,” Verstandig explained. “I got tired of reading about people who wanted to change the world, but nothing was happening. So, I decided that I wanted to do it myself; and it just seems to me that someone who has personally experienced the pains of the healthcare system is the fresh set of eyes that just might be needed to finally help make a difference.”

Careverge enables individuals to interact, share and manage healthcare experiences from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. As a result, Verstandig believes confidently that Careverge leverages one of the most powerful tools in today’s society – the Internet – to reshape the way people handle their healthcare issues.

“Social media has completely changed the way we view and interact with the world and life,” added Verstandig. “Through Careverge, we are empowering consumers to become more engaged in their own healthcare, and by doing that we think we can drive better healthcare experiences and better outcomes, while also helping to reduce costs.”

To become an active participant in their own healthcare experience, Verstandig encourages consumers to check out the site:  www.careverge.com.

Supported by a strong executive team, technology gurus and some well-known external advisors, Verstandig has largely been able to keep his innovative ideas moving to the next level and charting his own course.

“Careverge has enjoyed growing success, and I am well situated and thankful to be where I am, because I have great people around me who are experts in their respective fields,” Verstandig explained. “I have mentors and investors who have experienced all the potential pressures that go along with injecting oneself into such a highly charged issue as healthcare. And, right now I am learning so much more than I ever could have learned in a classroom. I hope that through my success, I might inspire others to take the bold chance on innovation – because the challenge is the best part about being an entrepreneur.”
